Catering

Weddings  |  Functions  |  Events  |  Anywhere that needs food

Make your function extra special with the fun factor of a food truck.

Craig and Kei have over 20 years of experience between them catering large, high quality functions.  We understand that a certain standard of service and speed is expected at special functions such as weddings.

Beat Kitchen prides itself on speed, efficiency and quality - with a friendly easygoing attitude.  We provide restaurant quality food and we are very flexible in our style of catering.  Along with the traditional buffet, we can design an alternative catering style to suit your function format and budget.  For example: traditional multi-course fine dining, a casual family style table buffet, or perhaps a feast of different street foods from around the globe to impress your guests.

Beat Kitchen can cater for your function (almost) anywhere you please.  Our certified kitchen is on wheels and is fully self-sufficient.  If you have a farm, a country house or any large grounds and a few hundred friends, talk to us about how we can tailor your function to your needs.

Our beloved bus is well equipped and has its own power supply so there is no need for power points and extension cords.  It also has a large capacity hot and cold water supply.  We can also arrange a liquor license and staff for your event.

Beat Kitchen is based in Wellington and will be happy to help you host events in the Wellington area, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa and the Kapiti Coast.

Contact us with any enquiries you may have. We are also more than happy to talk to you about logistics or other components of your event such as marquee hire or crockery, etc

Street food

Beat Kitchen serves up lashings of delicious global street food inspired from our travels.  As a food truck, we are as much about bringing the food to you as we are about taking you on a culinary adventure.

Parmesan Gnocchi with Roast Butternut Cream

Char-grilled Snapper with Freekah and Almond Salad

Our food is inspired by our travel across all parts of the globe.  Combining our professional cooking skills, perspectives we gained from our travel and the best local produce, Beat Kitchen is here to serve restaurant-quality street food that tastes great.

Fascinated by the vibrant flavours of street food as well as traditional and regional meals, we repeatedly travelled to eat.  We love the use of different ingredients and surprising flavour matches.  Travelling to eat as a chef, we each dissected what we ate.  We think our different cultural backgrounds and travel experiences plus our professional skills translate nicely into the flavour of our food.

We cook from fresh ingredients and change our menu frequently.  We aim to provide a diverse range of food discoveries with our menu.  Our onsite (and on wheels) commercial kitchen means we are more than capable of dishing out large amounts of food fast.  Years of working in the "back of the house" in New Zealand and overseas means we are consistent and efficient at providing high quality and delicious food.

Our Chefs

Craig  |  Kei

Our Chefs

Craig  |  Kei

Craig (the tall one)

Craig was a baker and a pizza maker. He worked at much-loved cafes like Deville in Nelson and C1 Espresso in Christchurch.  Abroad, Craig cooked modern Greek food in Melbourne under George Columbaris (of Australian MasterChef fame). He then spent a year in France serving fine dining fares at a luxury chalet in the Alps in the winter, and learned the art of confit and the south-western French cuisine in the summer.  For fun, Craig spent month long trips daringly eating Thai street food up and down the country, then down onto Malaysia.  Most recently, Craig headed a kitchen brigade at a large Wellington waterfront restaurant.

Craig has catered for countless functions over the years, including an Italian wedding in Nelson, an English wedding in France and Bar Mitzvahs. Craig also ran a kitchen operation in Wellington that catered for large functions (such as weddings) at the same time as serving an a la carte menu in its restaurant. With his baking background, Craig is also experienced in making wedding and other celebration cakes such as croque-em-bouche.  He is also a drummer.

Kei (the little one)

Kei is Japanese and has trained as a chef in NZ.  Kei has 14 years experience as a chef around NZ and in Japan, from luxury lodges to C1 Espresso in Christchurch.  Her extensive travel through South America - Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru - gave her great insight into their serious street food culture. She is inspired by the Japanese and Chinese communities in Peru that blend Spanish-Peruvian food with Far East cuisines.  Kei is small in size but is made up by her skills and attitude in the kitchen (and the height of her hair).  She is a mightily efficient ninja.  We think Kei’s efficiency ratio per volume is great in our mobile kitchen.
